Full Profile
Michael’s first degree was from Wadham College, Oxford. An MA and PhD were quick to follow. Since then, he has received numerous honorary degrees from such hallowed institutions as the Open University, the University of Exeter, and the University of London Institute of Learning. For his outstanding contributions to children’s literature, Michael was made Children’s Laureate from 2007 to 2009.
A few examples of this sterling work include his books for children and teachers alike on writing poetry, as well as several booklets made directly for educators on how to improve writing and reading skills in their younger students. He also writes a monthly news page and blog with helpful ideas for teachers on writing.
Michael’s passion for quality literacy provision extends beyond the work that he does for children and teachers. He writes a regular monthly open letter to the UK’s Secretary of State for Education in the Guardian where he critiques Government Policy on schools from the standpoint of a parent. On top of his work in writing, Michael is also a popular broadcaster, and has presented BBC Radio 4’s acclaimed language programme ‘Word of Mouth’ since 1998. His youtube channel ‘Kids Poems and Stories with Michael Rosen’ has over 55 million views.
